About

Dr. Ammr Al-Houssan is a Canadian international medical graduate who completed a direct entry medicine program at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. This enabled him to study medicine at a young and enthusiastic age while also expanding his global reach. In 2019, he received his MB BCh BAO degree with honors. He is a future general surgeon who is dedicated to making a difference in healthcare for future generations.

Ammr Al-Houssan hopes to complete his surgical residency training at the University of Connecticut, then seek fellowship training and establish his practice so that he may make a meaningful and transforming impact on his patients' lives.

Al-Houssan grew up in Canada's National Capital Region. He received his Ontario Secondary School Diploma from Earl of March Secondary School in Kanata, an Ottawa suburb, in 2013. He was a hardworking student with a great interest in science. Rather of attend a North American institution for a pre-medical baccalaureate degree, Al-Houssan was accepted into RCSI's direct entrance medical school in Dublin, Ireland.

Al-Houssan excelled in his academics while at RCSI. He held a variety of leadership positions. In his last three years, he was a Class Representative. He served on the Emergency Society's committee for two years, as well as the Surgical Society's Surgical Techniques Tutor, where he taught students the fundamentals of suturing and laparoscopic skills.

​

Al-Houssan also participated in extensive research while at RCSI, which allowed him to become a co-author and contributor to peer-reviewed scientific papers. He took part in cat allergy testing study for approximately three years. In Ottawa, Canada, he collaborated with Red Maple Trials to verify the city's first naturalistic cat allergy exposure chamber. The findings were published in the European Respiratory Journal and the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, respectively.

Al-Houssan finished his medical study at RCSI in 2019 at the age of 24. His grades, tests, and scores all placed him in the top 15% of his class. He received his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and Bachelor of Obstetrics and Gynecology (MB, BCh, BAO) with honors upon graduation.
